Surgeons use kilometers and kilometers of surgical sutures of different types: absorbables such as polyglycolic acid, polylactic acid, and polydioxanone as well as the non-absorbables like nylon and polypropylene. Sutures are used to hold and repair all body tissues, to repair arteries, vessels, and nerves, muscles, tendons, and others. There are a number of different techniques such as single interrupted, continuous or running sutures, etc.
Kumi Yamashita doesn’t use sutures to tight underlying facial tissues, and to fix redraped skin on the patient’s face and neck or to treat a skin lesions, but she performs other types of “stitches” to create beautiful art pieces that represent the human body.
